The Crandall Canyon Mine, formerly Genwal Mine, was an underground bituminous coal mine in northwestern Emery County, Utah. The mine made headline news when six miners were trapped by a collapse in August 2007. Ten days later, three rescue workers were killed by a subsequent collapse.

As events unfolded, U.S. Translation Company was approached by a legal firm requiring emergency Spanish to English interpretation services in Emery County, Utah. The client required 24/7 interpretation services availability. For the first several days there was only one interpreter performing duties until we could locate another available linguist for the assignment.
The assignment was not easy. The interpreter displayed the utmost poise and professionalism, upholding strict confidentiality expectations as a representative of the firm despite having inside knowledge regarding sensitive details of the case. The interpreter never divulged confidential information while being bombarded with questions from families, media, and other officials.
