U.S. Translation Company was approached to provide on-site interpretation during a national mining disaster in August 2007. The job was emotionally exhausting, physically demanding, and involved sensitive information. Teamed with an outstanding group of linguists we were able to play a small part in helping the legal process run as smoothly as possible.
The Crandall Canyon Mine, formerly Genwal Mine, was an underground bituminous coal mine in northwestern Emery County, Utah. The mine made headline news when six miners were trapped by a collapse in August 2007. Ten days later, three rescue workers were killed by a subsequent collapse.
This event required English to Spanish interpretation services.
We provided constant interpretation services over the course of three weeks in August of 2007.
As events unfolded, U.S. Translation Company was approached by a legal firm requiring emergency Spanish to English interpretation services in Emery County, Utah. The client required 24/7 interpretation services availability. For the first several days there was only one interpreter performing duties until we could locate another available linguist for the assignment.
The assignment was not easy. The interpreter displayed the utmost poise and professionalism, upholding strict confidentiality expectations as a representative of the firm despite having inside knowledge regarding sensitive details of the case. The interpreter never divulged confidential information while being bombarded with questions from families, media, and other officials.
Our translation agency implicitly works with the most skilled, professional, and ethical linguists available because of situations exactly like this. Our reputation is based on how we assist clients in portraying their image, and we understand that using anything but the best not only hurts our image, but that of our clients.
Although the tragic events rocked the small Utah community and the job was emotionally and physically exhausting, U.S. Translation Company and our exceptional linguists were able to play a small part in helping the legal process involved with this case run smoother.
